St. Edward's Catholic Church Social Club was founded in the 1960s by a group of Parishioners belonging to the newly built Church of St. Edward the Confessor, Hillcrest Close, Pound Hill. The design of the Church, modern to the times, incorporated a fine Church Hall on the other side of the back wall of the Church.

A social club was formed very early on from the very close knit community of the Church and one of the very first jobs they undertook was to build a bar at one end of the hall. This was done with whatever wood they could lay their hands on, and so the bar opened with volunteers from the club's early Committee helping out.

With the formation of the social club a group of the members formed a variety musical group, to be known as the Edwardians. They produced one show a year, to be staged at Christmas time. There were three perfomances, the first and second on the Friday and Saturday evenings, the third being for the Senior Citizens on Sunday afternoon. Both Friday and Saturday were always fully booked, the profits from Saturday night going to St. Catherine's Hospice. The association with St. Catherines continues to this day.

Over the years, continuing Committees have enhanced the club's decor and brought the bar up to its present day standard, of which we are particularly proud.

Gerry Lydon, our present Chairman, first came to St. Edwards in 1971 and was asked to join the Committee in 1972. Overseas work took him away for a number of years but he returned as Chairman in the early 1980s and has been involved ever since.

Our club is a very friendly venue to enjoy a drink and good company. Why not come and see for youselves?
